How does EV charger work?
An EV charger, like any other appliance or item that you charge by plugging into the wall, pulls an electrical current from either a 240v outlet or the grid it’s hardwired to and delivers it to the car.
What is the difference between Level 1 and level 2 chargers?
The speed of charging is the most significant difference between Level 1 and Level 2 EV chargers. The Level 2 EV chargers from EvoCharge have an average charge period of 3-to-8 hours, which translates to up to 52 Km of driving range every hour of charging. Level 1 chargers, which come standard with the vehicle, typically take 11 to 20 hours to charge, resulting in only 4 miles of driving range every hour of charging.
What is OCPP?
The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an application protocol that allows an electric vehicle (EV) charging station to communicate with a central administration system, commonly known as a charging station network. True OCPP chargers are unusual in that they do not require you to use a certain network. Other non-OCPP EV charging stations will not work unless you connect to a network that can interact with that charger. OCPP chargers allow you to choose which network you want to use and switch businesses at any time.

Can multiple chargers be installed at the same location?
Yes, the charging stations have load management capabilities, which limit how much electrical load is given to the circuit from the chargers, allowing for the installation of several units.
Can EVs be left unattended for charging?
Yes, charging stations are designed to stop transmitting power to the vehicle when the vehicle is fully charged. Since the power transmission will automatically stop, your vehicle can also remain powered on overnight.
Are AC chargers and DC chargers different?
The difference between AC and DC chargers is where the AC power is converted; inside or outside the car. The DC charger has a converter inside the charger, but whereas AC chargers inside the cars. This means that you can directly power the car battery without the need for a built-in charger for conversion. For electric vehicles, DC chargers are bigger, faster, and an exciting breakthrough.
What are the different types of charging sockets?
The type of connector you need varies by vehicle and the power rating or speed of the ChargePoint.
Electric vehicles either have a Type 1 or Type 2 socket for slow/fast charging and CHAdeMO or CCS for DC rapid charging.
Most slow/fast charge points have a Type 2 socket. Occasionally they will have a cable attached instead. All DC rapid charging stations have a cable attached with mostly a CHAdeMO and a CCS connector.
What is CCS connector?
CCS is a direct current (DC) charging connector. CCS connectors are used on a range of vehicles, including the BMW i3, Kia e-Niro, VW e-Golf, and Jaguar I Pace. Using a CCS connector is easy. Simply pull up to a supported charging location, follow the instructions on the charging unit, select the connector, and plug it into your car. The connector locks itself into the car whilst in use, and unlocks when charging is complete.
What is CHAdeMO?
It was created by a consortium of carmakers and industry bodies that now includes more than 400 members and 50 charging companies. It is an abbreviation of “CHArge de MOve,” which means “charge for moving,”. CHAdeMO is a rapid charging standard, meaning it can supply a vehicle’s battery with anywhere between 6Kw to 150Kw. CHAdeMO charging uses its own dedicated connector.
